"Cheap" Roof Caulk

We bought a new Jayco last year and set in up permanently on our private rural campsite. Our old trailer (now 51 years old) was relocated to another area of the property for our kids to use. Its a little shopworn, but other than the tires its quite sevicable. I check the roof annually and make repairs every few years, as necessary.

Only one spot of concern - the flashing around the roof vent. It has only leaked once and was repaired right away with a cauling gun and some roofing cement. It needs replacing on one side every 2-3 years since there is a dip in the roof on that side and it sits submerged at times when it rains hard.

As always, I intend to scrape off the tar that is loose, and patch it. So, I need something that is more waterproof and will stick to the bare metal roof as well as the adjacent tar. For 3 bucks I could go with tar again, but I'd like something a little more lasting, as long as it doesn't break the bank.

Suggestions?

I presume a metal roof?

If you get everything clean down to the original then I would think that Eternabond tape would be good, but it isn't really cheap.

I'm not so certain about trusting Eternabond tape to stick to plastic roofing cement though. The sun will heat up the plastic roofing cement. As the cement softens the Eternabond tape bond may not be so eternal.

Have you considered a self leveling pourable 2 part rubber type sealant? It isn't cheap, but it should fill in to address your ponding.

Other than that it is hard to get anything cheaper than plastic roofing cement. With regular inspection and touch-up it can do a good job.

EternaBond is supposed to stick to anything EXCEPT Silicone (according to the directions). However, I do believe that there is a separate tape for metal than for anything else (like EPDM, fiberglass, etc).
