Checking for gas leak

Based on the rapid consumption of propane, I'm considering that I have a propane leak in the system in the new 30.5 Eagle.

Short of the open flame test, has anyone done a pressure test of the lines, and how do you do that?

Use a spray bottle with soapy water (like liquid dish soap) and spray on all your joints, junctions, etc. Then watch for bubbles.

Does it use it while sitting in the driveway? Or just high consumption while camping?

High while camping, but I shut down the tanks when we pull out.

2 days camping emptied a full tank.....

I'll try the spray bottle

Like Waynem says, dish soap, not window cleaner. A tank in two days sounds like a lot and if it is leaking inside your sensor should pick it up. When checking the gas lines don't forget the quick detach connection for an outside grill.

If it is cold out and the furnace is running a lot you could easily use 7 gallons in just a couple of days. Were you using propane for the refrigerator and water heater too?

Are you using the furnace? That can be a big gas consumer.

Furnace only on propane - and it was cold. I suspect the its the ball valve back on the grill connect.

perhaps its just a bigger space to heat, and I need to adjust expectations. in my old TT, 2 full tanks would last me all season.

Hmmm. My ball valve has a cutoff valve ahead of it.

It's pretty easy to make a manometer and to use it to test for leaks or to test the operation of your regulator. There are three Youtube videos by Guy Presse titled "Propane pressure manometer leak test tool for RV use" "Manometer testing for propane leaks in RV gas system" and "Manometer testing propane regulator in RV". The manometer is just some plastic tubing and a calibrated wooden stand. The testing is fairly easy to do.

Caution: propane goes boom! Bear this in mind as you decide if you are comfortable using the information in the videos... If interested, search at the Youtube.com site using the terms "Guy Presse Manometer".

can that valve can be in either position when not engaged into another fitting?

Like in, I left it open, and gas seeped out?

You can open the valve on the QD whether or not anything is plugged into it. It only has to be "off" in order to slide the collar back. There may be a check valve incorporated into the QD which is opened by the male plug when the coupling is properly connected and in use.
