We're new to having a plumbing system like the one in our 23m. The manual says that we can fill the fresh water tank through the gravity tube or the city water connection. I have no problem filling the fresh water tank with the gravity feed tube but cannot get any water into the tank through the city water connection. What am I doing wrong?

I'm not familiar with your model, does it have a centralized control panel?
Our 5th wheel has the option to fill from the water connections, you just need to turn the bypass valves the right way, as shown on the decal in the controls area.

I'm not too sure what you mean by a centralized control panel. We just have the standard gauge panel for the battery, fresh, grey, and black tanks. The only bypass valves we have are for the hot water tank and pump and these are for winterizing.

As with many RV manufacturers the owners manuals are generic and not always model specific so the verbage applies to different units. If you have the valve panel you would use the city water connection if not you use the gravity fill.
Don't feel bad. The first time I used our 2008 197, I stopped in at a friend's place to get some water. I hooked his garden hose up to the city connection and waited...and waited...and waited some more. Hmm. He didn't know any better than me, so, get out the manual. Ah! Plan B worked like a charm!

We always use the city water usually when camping but we know of some sites we go to that has low water pressure.
At those sites I will just fill the fresh water tank and use our own water pump to pressure up our lines.
I usually carry a water tee with us and a water hose with a hand spigot on it. I hook this up to the city water water along with my city water connection to the trailer. This is handy to use around the camp ground site and is also a very easy way to fill the fresh water tank if the need arises.
Otherwise I will be filling up my duty 5-gallon water can and pouring down the fresh water tank manual fill port if we decide to use our water pump to pressure up with verses using their city water source....
