Cooling fan in the converter squealing noise?

The cooling fan in the converter is making a pretty loud squealing noise on my brand new 2010 G2 29BHS. Has anyone else had a problem with a loud fan in the converter?

Bearing in the fan is failed... If the trailer is under warranty yet I would have the dealer look into that...

If not let me know... I've got a few more tricks... :hihi:

It is under warranty, we have only had the rig since last Saturday. I guess I need to get it in!

Well I took it in, they said everything checks out and say the noise is normal. I doubt that but I guess I have to wait and see if it gets worse over time?

With my 2006 Jayco 29FBS, I cannot even hear its factory converter fan. If wondering, I can hear the optional 12V fan I installed on the rear of my fridge ( surf: http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...e/100_0588.jpg ) but I cannot hear its factory convertor fan. Just like I cannot hear the cooling fan on my computer's backup UPS system either.

If I remember correctly, the Convertor in my previous '93 Prowler 19ft TT could be heard but it was very quiet. One had to "strain their ears" to hear it. Thus, I'd call it "near silent" as well...

As a suggestion, visit other Jayco TT's within the same CG's and ask to listen to their factory Convertor fan. If wondering, one CG guy wanted to know how I connected by TT's Surge Protector. Thus, I showed him. If you approach other CG campers within a friendly inquire, many of them will show "their rig" to you. And thus, you can confirm if your Converter's fan noise level is normal.

Hope this helps...

There should be almost no fan noise. You might hear a little bit if it is under load, but no squeal.

I would do two things -- 1. Call Jayco and tell them what is going on. They might be able to instruct the dealer to fix it. 2. If you are near the dealer again soon, stop by and ask to walk into another unit of the same type and have them plug it in. Should be easy to tell if it is a normal sound.

Does it do it all the time, just occasionally, or just under heavy loads?

We can just barely hear ours if we are close to it. It was quiet in our last two trailers also.

Update on the squealing noise, turns out it is the transformer not the cooling fan. Jayco is replacing under warranty. They are sending to me directly the replacement converter and I am replacing it myself. I just installed a new PD4045 in my friends trailer yesterday and it makes none of the noise that mine does. So I called Jayco and they are replacing it.

That`s good news. The squealing was certainly not normal and undoubtedly annoying. Here`s a case where knowing how to install it yourself saves a trip to the dealer which can be expensive with $4 gas, not to mention your time involved. -Lee
