Diesel heater in a Jayco Melbourne (Sprinter)

After Boondocking for a week in freezing temp. in the nights I realized that the propane tank is a limiting factor how long you can stay out.

Generator and furnace uses lot of propane.

My thinking is that a diesel heater like Webasto or Espar would be a solution.

Is there anyone that have installed a diesel heater on a Sprinter?

The only problem I see is how to get a pick up tube to the diesel tank.

I have the factory installed diesel fired coolant heater on my Sprinter. It works amazingly well when the temps are cold (only works below 40 degrees). Being a factory install, it only operates when the engine is running.

I haven't done much investigation on the aftermarket offerings. But, I know that there are several out there that will run on demand without the engine running, only using the chassis battery to run the HVAC fan and furnace ignition. I would imagine that they would work great for your application.

The tube may already be there since that chassis is used by many RV Manuf and Winnebago offers a Diesel geny option.

When it stops raining, I will take a pic of the factory split on my Sprinter. It probably is the same port that is used for the generator as you mentioned. It is very strait forward and could probably be split if needed.

Here are a couple of pics for you. The first is of the fuel fired heater. The second is the plastic fuel line from the tank to the heater. Unfortunately, there isn't enough room for me to get the camera on top to see the actual port on top the tank.

Thanks, Yes there is an extra tube installed. It is located where the filling tube enters the tank.
