Direct TV "box"

I have a 29RKS on order and will be utilizing a Direct TV dish at the camping space we lease. My satellite box measures 10"x12". The depth of the space behind the TV and where the cable connections are located is about 7" deep. Where or how do you mount your cable box, given the limited space behind the TV and in the compartment where the cable hookups are located, and also keep the remote "line of sight" access?

Do you have enough room to set it on end or at an angle? Electronics don't care as long as it has air flow..

Hard to tell in the picture I saw on-line, but there are cabinets above and below the TV. As Seann says, you can stand the receiver on-end in one of the cabinets and extend the wires to that area (drilling holes).

If the satellite receiver can accept an IR extender, then you can run the extender to the TV area so your remote still has line of site.

Unless your DirecTV "box" is REALLY old, you should be able to configure the receiver to use RF (radio frequency) instead of IR (infrared) for the remote commands. Then you can mount it in a cabinet near by, behind the TV etc. and eliminate the need for "line of sight".

If you don't have an RF capable remote (model # has an R or RX at the end) you can order one from numerous places online. The RC66RX I believe is the most compatible with all "non genie" receivers and televisions.

Thanks for the replies - yeah the box is "really old", model D10. The IR extender is a great idea (wasn't aware of such an animal) - With the extender, my problem is all but solved as the box can mount on the vertical panel behind the TV.
