When we were looking, DirecTV was just as expensive as you quote above. Dish not only had portable antennas for $250 and up but also had an add-on $7 a month deal for your RV, only charged when you actually turn on the receiver. I think their closest for HD was $1500 or so and was a permanent mount, which we didnt want.

So, if you are going to camp around the start of the month and set up your dish and receiver, you will get billed for $7 for all that month.

I bought a flat coax and poke it through one of my front windows and then connect it to my receiver. We get great reception mostly, unless we are really under some tall stand of trees. And we get locals by calling Dish and telling them our 'new' travelling zip code.

Our dish also can hit either east or west satellites, unlike most of the DirecTV units.

Oh yeah, and when we bought our dish from CW, they had a deal at the time on a free HD receiver. We did have to buy a $75 tripod since I didn't want the antenna sitting directly on the ground.

This is what I will be getting or I might just go to their website and order, my birthday is coming up so I'm going to see what I will be getting for my birthday.

So what receiver did you go with?

The Wally is what they use for secondary units. And I added their proprietary USB drive to get WiFi. We park in our driveway so I can reach my DVR and get On Demand that way whenever we are 'connected'.

Oh okay, I'm just learning all of this stuff but I just order my bundle and when I get it I should be able to put it together and learn more.
