Electric awning mods?

Our last trailer had a manual awning and I loved it. Being able to adjust the height and slope kept things very dry on the deck. Our new trailer has the electric, non-adjustable awning and quite frankly it sucks. It's too low and can't be slanted. As a result the water runs off of the entire length, splashes on the deck and soaks everything at least three feet back from the edge of the awning.

I know there are conversion kits out there but I'm not up for a thousand dollars to "fix" what I see as a huge design flaw.

Has anyone made their own adjustable arms or come up with a solution for this that won't break the bank?

The electric ones are adjustable, at least mine is. You should have holes that allows you to make some adjustments. They do say though that after adjustment, be sure to put it back in at least hole 3 before retracting.

We have an electric Awning and it is adjustable see the photo "adjusting knob circled in red" After posting my photo I googled your 5TH wheel and saw a photo of the awning. It is completely different then mine.

Trust me, non-adjustable.

This shows the awning. Carefree of Colorado, electric. They do have an adjustable arm conversion kit, but as I said earlier it's around $1,000. Booo..

There must be a better (IE: cheaper) solution to this.

I'm assuming with your manual awning you just let the corner toward the front of your coach down slightly lower than the one by the door so the water would drain off there?? Any way, I have that same awning - I would try taking an awning tie down on that side and pulling it down a little. the bungee should give on that side more than the other allowing the water to run to the front like before. This is just a guess and I've never tried it though - perhaps you already have?

if this is your awning, it is adjustable, I have the exact model of awning, trust me, you can adjust it.

When retracted in, open it about 1 foot, along the edge of the frame along the side of the trailer, there are 5 or 6 stop settings (holes) where you can press the pin in, and adjust them up or down, each movement along the hole moves it about an inch off the end when opened.

If I recall, starting in 2011 they went with an adjustable model, which mine has. The bottom awning rail on the camper has a button in the rail extending it. What I don't know is if this rail is available separate. If you can get just that rail, you may be able to convert to an adjustable awning. Honestly, I don't mind my electric awning, but mine is adjustable.

There are two models of this awning, adjustable and non-adjustable.

http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/ca...&categoryid=36

If you follow the link above mine is the Travel'r regular model. The "upgraded" adjustable arms also shown in that link are expensive, as I mentioned before.

On oaur last rv we had a low end model of Carefree, electric, but not adjustable. While still under warranty a plastic gear that controls it went out (and it was pretty vicious). If I had to pay I would have went with an adjus table model. My Jayco has one and it really increases the usability factor.

Our 2010 Jayco has the non-adjustable version of this awning. it does suck. Mine is not as slanted as yours is, because mine is mounted on my travel trailer, I guess they make the angle different? Mine goes straight out parallel with the ground, no slant.

When it rains, I take a LYNX leveller block and wedge it between the bottom most part of the arm and the arm above it, this puts a bit of a sag in the awning and forces the run off to go to the back of the trailer. If I don't do this, the "auto dump" feature can be very surprising as you have no idea which way it is going to dump.
