Electric tongue jack questions
Newbie at all this. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question. TT is a 300BH from 1992. Gross weight is around 6K. After ONE trip with the manual jack, I really want an electric one. Questions:
1) How beefy a jack do I need?
2) Is it a lot more expensive to get one that runs off the 7 pin on my truck, as opposed to the battery? The battery is really old, and I doubt seriously it will hold a charge at all. I don't plan to do any remote camping, so it doesn't seem like I need the battery for anything else.
3) If I get a jack that connects to the TT battery, will it work if the 7 pin is plugged in? Will I have to have my truck running? Doesn't the truck charge the TT battery? I installed a relay for it.

Get the big power jack. You can use it to raise the trailer when it is hitched to the truck to hook up the weight distribution bars.

I would suggest you also get a new battery. The battery is the source of power for the trailer brakes if the trailer disconnects from the TV. The breakaway switch activates the brakes but needs the battery to provide the power.

I would get at least 3000lb jack. My jack is a 4000 lb Bulldog and my trailer is 7500 lb GVW. I would get a new battery and hard wire it there. I have been happy with mine and got it off eBay from Mantelli trailer. Barker is a favourite brand as well

Most jacks are 12V DC so they will work when the tt is connected to the tv,(big load on the tv electric system) it should also work when you are connected to shore power if your battery is any good and the fuse isn't blown. I just got a Huskey 3000lb for our 19H, works well and easy to install.

A Barker VIP 3000 jack would be a great choice. After a lot of research online, the Barker seemed to be the most reliable. I purchased one from amazon.com for $210.00. I put it on our trailer last month and we love it.

Thanks, all. I've decided ti suck it up and buy one. Will replace battery also. Did think about the TT battery having to power teh brakes in case of emergency. YIKES! One more question:
Is the spacing of the mounting holes standard? The flange on my manual jack is triangular, but I see a lot of round ones on the powered jacks. I'm guessing yes, but thought I'd ask.

They seem to be standard spacing. The mounting flange on the power jack is round but the holes are in a triangal pattern. Be sure you use a dremel, file or sand paper to remove some paint around the mounting holes as the jack is self grounding (no external ground wire to connect)

You will love the electric tongue jack! I bought an Atwood 3500# which was waaay overkill for our TT - but on the other hand it easily handles the TT and TV while hitched enabling easy setting the WDH bars. The Bride operates the jack while I do the backing :director: Fore/Aft leveling is a snap also.
The manual crank was easy enough but this is that much better.

Awesome. Ordered a barker 3500 with the 24 inch stroke (Mantelli.) Also bought a new battery today. Looking forward to having it. Does the TT battery get it's charge through the panel inside? There were just the two wires for the battery. From what I understand, it charges off the TV battery when connected. Does the 7 pin send the charge into the panel, then back?

When you are on shore power the inverter will keep the battery charged. The seven pin from your truck to the trailer will also keep your trailer battery charged while driving. If the engine is off the power most likely is off also.

MAYDAY! Got jack installed, but piston won't move at all. Night light works, so it's obviously getting power. Is there something else? It takes power straight off the battery, so the TV doesn't have to be hooked up, right?
