The rubber apparently decided to fall out of my exhaust hanger bracket by the tail pipe. Simple repair to replace the assembly since it was only held by a single nut. No big deal, or so I thought.
1. Ordered part from EBay, no problem.
2. Crawled under and tried to remove nut. Wouldn't budge. Broke a 1/2 to 3/8 socket adapter when trying to use a breaker bar. Ended up having to heat it up with a torch and using a long-handled ratchet.
3. New assembly had a welded on nut where old one used a thru-bolt. No big deal, the bolt threaded into the nut. Tried tightening while in place but bolt stripped.
4. Tried to find a bolt to fit but nothing matched the threads be it fine, coarse or metric. Ended up rethreading nut to a coarse thread.
5. Tried to get bolt to start from the back side of the frame rail while holding the bracket up in place with exhaust attached. Just would not start due to an angle on the bracket.
6. Noticed the rod welded to the exhaust pipe was bent upward instead of at a right angle. It would not insert into the new rubber straight on. Ended up heating up the rod with a torch and bending it to a normal angle.
7. Still had a hard time getting the bolt to start. It fought me for 10 more minutes. Bolt now finally started and tightened normally.
So, what I assumed would be a 10 minute job ended up taking an hour and a half and caused a lot of 4 letter words to be uttered. Why is nothing ever easy????
