Filling fresh water tank.
Just picked up a jay flight swift 267bhs. If i have to fill the fresh water tanks does the water pump automatically fill the hot water heater? Will the pump only run to prime line then shut off or run all the time when water is being drawn from tank? Thanks for and help.

Whenever you are NOT hooked up to city water the pump will run any time water is being used. The first time you use the the water system (either city water or fresh water tank) you should open all water spigots and allow the air to purge from the lines. Once the cold water spigots are air free close them. While the air is purging from the hot water spigots the water heater will fill. Be sure the winterizing bypass valves for the water heater are in the proper position. Hopefully your dealer did a walk thru with and showed you these valves.
One more caution....if you have electric capability on your water heater DO NOT run it with the tank empty. It will burn out the element in short order.

When you guys pull up to a fill station do you fill the tank and then turn the pump on and purge the lines right there (fill the water heater) and then top up the fresh tank again to get maximum fresh water on board? Any harm in driving the trailer from the fill station to the campsite with water in all the lines?

If you are going to fill the freshwater tank, you might as well fill the HWH. Filling the HWH increases your freshwater capacity by about 6 gallons. In fact many manufacturers include the capacity of the HWH in their published freshwater capacity. Some would tell you they travel with full freshwater tanks all the time....I would say - be sure they are FULL (minimize sloshing which can cause weight shifting forces and stress on the tanks mounts) and be aware of the weight it adds to your capacities (tongue weight, TT cargo, CGWR). Remember that water weighs@ 8.4# US Gallon....

I hook the garden hose up to the city water inlet at home and fill the water heater and purge the air from all the lines. When I arrive at the CG I swing through the dump station or wherever the potable water spigot is and fill the potable water holding tank on the trailer. Makes for a lot less dinky donkin around at the campground.

Which, while true, is somewhat misleading. My 16 gallon total capacity is only <10 gallons of usable capacity, 38% less than advertised. Annoyed the heck out of me when I realized it.
