The filter is in the line coming from the water hookup connection to the valve manifold. If you're drawing water from your tank using the onboard pump, the filter isn't being used.

Yup, I figured this out pretty quick when I went to blow my lines dry. My system wasn't getting air because everything goes in through that filter. I haven't tested it yet, but I'm pretty sure the line in from the on-board tank goes through there too. I guess I just had residual pressure from the lines when I was testing it? IDK; I'll fully test it when I get it back out of storage later...
So I put the empty housing back on, blew out my lines and moved on with winterizing.
It would be nice to have bypass for that spot though. Just like the water heater. The hardest thing about installing it would be the space. Under that sink where the filter is it's a bit tight.
