This is a common issue. There are lots and lots of posts on the subject. There are a number of ways to address this issue. For me, I could locate the vent tube inside my tt. I had enough slack, to pull the hose up, so the hose end was only an inch below the underbelly. On the inside of the tt, I was able to secure the vent hose to the cabinet frame, so it could not slip down (had that issue the 1st time around). The elevated loop fixed the issue for me. Others, who have multiple vent tunes, combined into a large diameter manifold, then broke them back off into the reg size tube, having one vent pipe off the top of the manifold, this breaks the vacuum. Curing the siphoning affect.
Others add sharkbite valves to the end of the vent lines. But as you have heard, if you forget to open the valves, you can damage the tank.
