Friction sway control

First trip out my friction sway control decided it did not want to go camping. Does anyone else hate these things??

Pulled out of the driveway the pin holding FSC to the TT breaks. Stop put new pin in. Make a stop about half way along our trip. Leaving out from the stop we made the small ball on the hitch breaks off hits the E-brake cable trailers brakes lock up.

There has to be something better than a friction sway control !!!!

Just curious as to what setup you are using.

How tight did you have it set?

I could be way off here, but it sounds like you may have it too tight. I have to loosen mine up before I back into my campsite. I keep it tight when traveling down the highway.

That is possible. I have tried to set it the same way every time I have used it. Just had issues this time.

I came across this at etrailer.
http://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Distr...e/RP66074.html

Is this something new? Anyone use this type of hitch?

The straight line sway control has good reviews from what I have read. Would like to hear from someone on the forum that has one.

The Reese Strait-Line WDH has been around for a long time..., and the Dual Cam Sway Control part of the Strait-Line is on it's 3rd version.

I've been running this WDH/Dual Cam on my Eagle for almost 10 years towing my 8,500lb TT around the US....., no problems. The integrated sway control (Dual Cam) performs very well. Mine was originally rated at 1,200lbs, but my TT's loaded tongue weight eventually exceeded 1,200lbs (added some mods) so all I had to do was upgrade to 1,500lb rated spring bars.

With the standard manual friction sway control arm it has to be removed when backing, you don't have to disconnect anything when backing into a campsite with the Strait-Line.

Have used the Reece friction bar on both of our TT;s with very good results. You have it tightened too far, is my guess. Also open it up when entering the CG or a parking area where you will be making tight turns. Not a thing wrong with friction bars.

Please note, like with any WDH proper installing and adjustment is important for optimum performance. Here are a couple tips for the Strait-Line installation:

* Confirm all set-up dimensions before drilling into the TT A-frame.

* Proper torque is required with Reese supplied fasteners, so a torque wrench is required (don't guess).

* If possible, use a C-clamp to hold the Reese Frame Plate tight against the TT's A-frame bottom and side surfaces before drilling. You want the Frame Plate to be tight against the A-frame surfaces once the thread forming screws are tightened.

* Pay special attention on how the chain is attached (via U-bolt) to the Hanger Bracket, and also the orientation of the Hanger Bracket when mounted to the Cam Arm. NOTE: Depending on Reese Dual Cam version the Hanger Bracket could be a flat plate, or have a slight bend in it...., they are assembled/mounted differently.

* Once everything is installed/adjusted, check for component inferences. Take your TV/TT to a parking lot and make a normal TV turn, stop, then get out inspecting for proper clearances (no binding, etc.).

Couple JOF Reese Strait-Line WDH (HP Dual Cam) threads for reference:

@Rustic Eagle. Did you go with a trunnion bar or a round bar set up?

Have you looked at Equal-i-zer? I don't have anything against any good hitch and no stock in Equalizer but I suggest you take a look at them.

Equal-i-zer is so COOL !!!

I towed a 26 foot Sunnybrook TT with an Equal-i-zer and I was so happy with it. Hooking up was really easy. No sway ever. One of the good things about this setup is that it is both sway control and load leveler in one.

I went with the Trunnion style spring bars:

* My TT ball coupler is welded to the bottom of the TT's A-frame.

* The Trunnion style ball mount has more tilt adjustment range.

* Maximum Round Bar rating is 1,200lbs..., Trunnion Bar style is 1,700lbs.

Note: When a TT ball coupler is welded to the top of a TT's A-frame (especially with 6" tall A-frames), a round bar style may provide some clearance enhancements with some TV/TT combinations.

I tow the same trailer you do (28BHBE) and the Reese 1200/12000 is the next one I'll buy. Probably will get trunnion style because the coupler is on the bottom of the frame. So I'm interested to hear how you like it when you've got some time in it...

I agree. I can pull my rig in heavy truck traffic or wind without sway. And I don't adjust anything. Hook up and go.
