Fridge Cooling Fans

Just wondering who out there has installed fridge cooling fans in the fridge chimney (not inside the fridge). I want to do this mod and am looking for ideas. I've looked at the Valterra fan on Amazon ( Amazon.com: Valterra A10-2618VP FridgeCool 12 Volt Exhaust Fan: Automotive ) but it seems like I can get more air flow for less money going with computer fans.

It also looks like I won't be able to install them without removing the top roof cover for the fridge, and I'm not sure how tough of a job that is.

If anyone has pics of their fan set up I would love to see them.

Thanks!

I found myself doing this earlier in the month as we were experiencing a record heat wave which was causing my fridge to perform poorly. I stopped by a local electronics store and found a 12v muffin fan which was large enough to create a nice draft behind the fridge, but not be too loud. It cost $9 IIRC. I'll try to get a picture for you, but it was an "experimental" install, just to see if it made a difference- which it did. The real benefit in that Valterra fan is that it has a thermostat which turns it on and off. I have to remember to unplug mine when it gets cooler at night.

I installed that same one in my fridge compartment in the lower area. I have only heard it running a few times.

If you have a unit with the fridge in the slide out, check up in the flue real well. I heard a strange noise in mine and found a factory installed fan in the flue between the upper and lower vent.
