generator storage

Is it safe to carry a 2000I generator under a black tonneau cover, the foldable type that folds back towards the cab of the pickup.

That's where I've kept mine for a couple of years now. When I use it I slide it out unto my tailgate, or set it down near the TT. Never had any issues.

Why not? If it fits underneath and doesn't rub anywhere it shouldn't be a problem, right?

If it's under a black cover in the sun it can get a little hot and your gas tank may leak through the vent. I would leave some room for the gas to expand.

That is where I have stowed it. I do not like the idea of having potential gas vapors in the TV or tt

I keep mine in the front storage compartment of my fifth wheel. It sits right where a factory installed unit would be. I crack the front compartment when camped. The area is vented and sealed.

I remove it when in use.

Don't want to hijack this post, but my generator manual says the gen. must be grounded. How do you guys ground yours? Or is it even necessary?

I sit it on the ground. Sometimes not. When I put it in a cart to power weed eater and blower around my yard.

Has anyone put the Yamaha 3oooise generator in the front storage compartment under the fifth wheel pin. If so do you have any pics of how it is secured & routing for the exhaust.
I really like this generator but it is heavy & would like to mount it semi-permanently so not struggling every time i have to load it up.. Thanks.

If you want to keep the front fifth wheel compartment sealed, you could mount the generator to over-extension heavy duty drawer slides. That way you could Slide it out to use it and Stow it when not being used. I would add some kind of Exhaust extension.
