Good converter, bad battery, how do I check?

I think I have a bad battery. When it's hooked up, most everything but 12 volt and my AC is dead. When I unhook the battery, everything springs to life. How do I know it's either the converter or the AC?

See the attached docs. There is a section on converter troubleshooting.

Like JimD posted your battery should be fully charged and no draw and should have been at rest for hours before testing. 12.6 or a little higher is what the resting (not sure of the exact terminology) voltage should be, not right after charging it (surface charge). A load test or using a digital battery checker would help also.https://www.amazon.com/KONNWEI-100-2...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Have your battery tested at an auto store. Could be shorted internally.

I would agree.

If you remove the battery, are plugged into 120V, and everything 12V (lights, fan...) work fine- then the converter appears to be fine. Turn on the AC, it should work fine since the battery doesnt have anything directly to do with the AC.

Follow norty1 advise. A battery can explode if gassing and an arc is created by hooking/unhooking cables.

Other problems could be the wiring such as from the battery to the converter.
