Help me...Why did we have Hot Water?

I'm extremely puzzled, as were all the campers around me...

Here is what we're working with: Travel Trailer - 2007 Jayco Jay Flight 28RLS; Me - Complete noob when it come to RV'ing (this is our first summer), but I'm trying to learn.

When we hook up, we usually take our time turning things on in the camper. Well this particular trip, I never actually got around to turning on the hot water heater (gas or electric). The next morning my wife takes a shower and when she gets out, I ask her (with a big ole grin on my face) how she enjoyed her "Cold" shower. She tells me the "Hot" water was just fine... I check and we do indeed have hot water...How is this possible? I double check everything and all the switches are off and the gas hasn't even been turned on yet. She then assists both of the kids with their showers, and I take a shower...And the water is still hot! I undo the water line at the source, and we're getting cold water from the campground. Obviously I'm confused, but none of my neighbors could figure it out either.

Someone please explain to me how we had hot water. I never did turn on the hot water heater for the remainder on the 5 day stay, and we had both hot and cold water for the entire 5 days.

Help me understand, please!

At first I was going to say that maybe the sun heated the hoses and water supply, but if you found cold water then nope....

It sounds to me like a relay or something on the control board is stuck and causing the AC side of the water heater to be on the entire time. I would have it looked at if you are not comfortable tinkering around with it. It could be a safety issue and could also burn out the element if you plug into shore power with it dry.

Yes I`m guessing the electric portion of the HW heater is staying on for some reason.

I have to agree. Something electrical is stuck on.

The first thing I would do is check the switch. Remove the switch then remove one wire from the switch then run the hot water (this will take a while), if you run out of hot water then the switch is bad.

Or continuity test the switch.
