Dealer should bronze that thing, put a sign on it and hang it outside the shop. IMHO.

Final Update:
Problem found - bad spark plug. He had finished servicing the generator with oil change, cleaned the air filter, new plug, etc. and it wouldn't run. He never replaced the plug again when it wouldn't start never thinking the plug he replaced was bad.
The generator is back in service and has run 45 hours or so out of the last 48 hours.

No more updates since his season is over. The generator won't be back in 23+ hours/day service until late May 2015.

I have two 2000i's but not that many hours. My buddy has one about 10 years old that we use at deer camp a lot and it still runs great. Had to replace carb once but that was his fault for leaving gas in it that turned to varnish. 20 min change out.

We're in the middle of a whole house renovation project. We anticipated a 3 to 4 week stay in the Pup while the electrical and mechanical portions were completed.....several complications (mechanical and dry wall contractor no show) we are now going on week 7 and probably have one more week if the code inspectors do their part.
Our dual Honda 2000's have been running almost continually (24/7) from the start. The temperatures have dropped, so now we get by with just one running so I've been rotating the usage. Not a hiccup from either of them. Every other week I change the oil and clean the filters. Couldn't be any more pleased with the quality and dependability of the Honda product.....well worth the money IMHO.

Thanks for the input.
I can't really find much bad on the Hondas or the Yamahas. My no name unit only lasted around 800 hrs and is toast.

I have a Honda and love it. I'm sure the Yamaha is just as nice. I wouldn't buy any other brand of inverter generator. Regardless of cost.

I think the Yamaha & Honda brands are both great choices you'll never regret.

I looked at a lot of inverter/generator brands such as Generac, Honeywell, Powersmart, etc. I have never read so many negative reviews. Most said they are Chinese junk. They also said to spend the extra bucks and go with the Honda/Yamaha. What did I do? I went to Menards and bought a Champion 2000w, 1700w continuous clean sine wave inverter/generator. For $499, and weighing in at 48lbs, 2 year warranty, and pretty quiet at 53dbls and not any really negative reviews I'm going to give it a chance. Easily stackable for extra power as well. We'll see.

I've seen those champion's and I'm very curious to hear what you think. I think if they had been available in 2007 I'd have given them a try too. I can't tell you how many times we've run that Yamaha for long weekends, 24 hours a day. Seven years later, same battery. Only repair was a new magneto, $125 repair.

This is the only other unit I have been considering. They go for around $600 around here and the Hondas go for $1100. Still a tough pill to swallow.

I just bought the unit, still in it's box. It comes with oil for startup, has one or two 120v connections, and a 12v connection with cables that plug in for battery charging. I know it won't power all that much, but that's ok because I don't boondock. Also states a run time of 9.5 hours at a 25% load. There's a few You-Tube videos on it and people seem to like it. I bought it for around the house and to power up stuff in the camper while it's in storage if needed. Lightweight and easy to carry without breaking your back.

The Honda that this thread was about initially was put back in service a couple of months ago and after another few hundred hours completely quit again. This time is was determined by the selling dealer the motor was completely worn out. It required a new cylinder, piston, and all of the other stuff associated with that. He has it back and warranty covered all parts, but not the labor.
I guess we know, at least in this case, that the little Honda's engine will run for a bit over 3,000 hours before it dies.
It is running daily again as of a couple of weeks ago.

We ran our twin EU2000's 24/7 for three months living in our Pup while renovating our house. The fourth month I alternated using them round the clock as the temps had dropped and we weren't running the AC, but I was using power tools inside the house along with general power in the pup. Those units have somewhere in the range of 15,000 to 18,000 hours on them. I ran Sea Foam in both gas and oil, changed oil every other week and cleaned filters weekly. Changed spark plugs monthly. Both units still start on the first or second pull and current output is as spec'ed. We put about $1,400 on the gas credit card, going through about 15 gals of gas every 2.75 days, but still saved upwards of $3500 on temp housing for that time....
