I used to leave mine out then I thought about the possibility of a critter of some sort crawling in there,so I just loose turn it in.

I have always left mine out until rugerguy just mentioned something possibly crawling in there. All of these years and I never thought about that.

That's my worry, something moving in...might be hard to flush a nest out. I just don't know if its an environment that anything can live in.

I leave it out and keep a bar of Irish Spring soap in the compartment. I've heard the soap keeps the critters away.

I drain the tank and put it back in. Plenty of room for any expansion of what small amount of water might be left.

I leave it in due to possible corrosion, dirt and critters wanting a home. It is finger tight then pulled for the spring flush.

I leave it out and have a flea collar placed in the compartment somewhere which keeps out wasps, etc. I guess a mouse could crawl up in there but not sure why...no food there and nothin' to chew on

Down here in Florida, with the little Anole lizards and the ever so popular Palmetto bug (cute name for a cockroach) that get into everything, so I keep the plug in along with sealing off every other possible entry way into the TT and the house. The TT is never really in storage, as we take it out a lot, and it does not freeze down here. I am about 150 yards from the gulf and a nice warm breeze blows in from it during the winter (water is in the 50's/60's in Dec/Jan)
So far so go!!

i installed a drain plug valve that I leave partially opened but prevents anything from entering. There is such little water left in there that even with the plug in place during winter it wouldn't freeze enough water to hurt it.

I would like to install one of these but I have heard that a brass plug in an aluminum water heater could result in a chemical reaction between the two metals.

I remove the plug, drain the water, re-apply teflon tape to the nylon plug, replace it and we're ready for Spring.

I drain the tank and let it somewhat air dry/vent for the day then tighten fully awaiting next camping season. If you just screw it in a few threads you run the risk of forgetting to fully snug it down next year prior to the first trip out.

The correct answer is- brass and aluminum are dissimilar metals that do not like each other. So I would not use a brass valve there to be safe....

Crabman speaks the truth. The last place I worked made aluminum air con tubing and brass heater pipe for Denso. We couldn't run both products in the same building due to cross contamination risks. One small brass shaving embedded into aluminum will eat a hole all the way through eventually.

I have my dealer winterize and inspect every december. I get a letter from him about the condition of the roof, caulking, etc. That way if I do have an issue, it is documented. Anyways, they leave the plug in.
