Inline Surge Protecter

I was wanting to know If I use a inline surge protecter that would normally be hooked directly to the Power Hookup at a Campground could be left in the Basement of the RV and hook a Extension cord to it and run it to the Hookup. Want to try and keep it from getting stolen. Also what are some of the Best Extension Cord Brands? Thanks in advance!

With a detachable power cord this might be possible. How would you get the power into the RV? My power cord is attached and stuffed/wadded into a cord storage compartment. I'd have to change the cord arrangement, but it would be doable.

I have a Camco 30amp extension cord, but I haven't seen anything regarding better/worse brands.

I have used an external EMS connected to the pedestal for >3 years with no concern for theft. If the pedestal has a cover that covers the connection, there is typically a tab to put a padlock on. If not, then I use one of the clamshell covers that go over the EMS connection to the shore power cord and lock it there. I like the idea of a detachable powers cord, essentially what you need to keep the EMS in the basement, but the. The concern simply shifts from EMS theft to power cord theft. Power cords are cheaper, but EMS have multiple options to secure them.

If you are truly concerned, but the hardware version and permanently install it.

Sounds like you need one of these then.
If your trailer is 50amp they are available too.
A dealer in Florida is the cheapest place on line I have seen them

X2, though in our case it's two years without any problems. I lock it when I can, but have also left it unlocked several times.

Here is the in line one I bought from Progressive Industries.

Same reason. Did not want to worry about weather or theft. Comes with or without a remote display.

Lifetime warranty and if something does fry, it is modular and they just send you the replacement part. No shipping back to the mfg.

I have a portable one that I always use and if I can I close and lock the box thru tab with padlock as previously stated.

For the times the box does not lock I carry a small piece of chain and wrap it tightly around post with pad lock.

This makes it so it is not easy to just grab and go but if they really want it say goodbye.

I have never had any problems but then I am a Lock-A-Holic.

Be aware some external ones must be mounted vertically .... they wont work right horizontally.. I hard wired mine where the power cord comes into the RV

3X. We used our 30A a couple of years without a lock, I had one but never used it. When we bought the 5th I installed a hard wired version. Both Progressive Industries EMS models.

Vertical is key with the external units. I've used one for a couple years and left it unattended at state parks throughout the summer. Theft has crossed my mind, but never has happened.

Just curious, why would you prefer the exterior type, and not an inline permanent install?

I already got it lol! Would it be wise to put a bucket over the pole to keep the surge protector out of the weather. I am most likely over thinking this. I have the Progressive Industries Brand. They are going to deliver the Eagle this coming Saturday and I'm starting to get excited. Thanks to all who replied.
