Not sure in what context you are asking. An inverter takes 12 volt battery power and turns into 120 volt AC power.

Like Ela1948 said it converts your batteries 12VDC output to 120VAC. You mount them in your TT and when you are dry-camping (no electrical hook up) you turn them on and you can watch TV and run other low power 110AC items. Sorry, the normal inverter systems do now allow for using your Air Conditioner or Microwave.

In addition, the more you use the inverter the more battery backup and a means to charge them comes into play.

I often get confused when talking about these things:

A converter is what most trailers come with. It converts 120 volt AC power down to 12 volt to run your lights and such when you are plugged into shore power. It will also charge your battery.

An inverter is used to gain 120 volt AC power from your 12 volt battery to run electronics and such from the wall plugs. RV's generally don't come with these, but most will add them on so they can use the standard outlets to charge computers, coffee pots... while on battery power.
