Inverter. use surge protector of not?

I run our Yamaha ef2400ishc inverter from the back of the truck.I use a separate ground to the body. Should I use my surge protector of not? I know the inverter produces " clean " power, but that's about all I know about it. Thank you for your input.

Good question.

I have the same model Yamaha genny, but my EMS is hardwired in my TT so in my case the TT is protected while running the genny.

When boondocking I haven't noticed folks using a surge protector with their genny's.

No need for a surge on a genny. No need for a ground wire.

I have a hardwired EMS and the Yamaha has a floating ground so it will trigger a ground fault error when plugged into the trailer (unrelated to my other thread on the issue). If your unit does the same there is a ground to neutral bonding plug you can buy or make that solves the problem. You plug it into one of the outlets on the generator and then plug the power cord you are using for the RV into the other outlet.

It is called an Edison plug.

The plug you describe Edison Plug is a standard ac outlet plug. The device I have seen is a edison plug with the neutral and gnd wires shorted together.

I purchase a plug at HD, wired the ground to neutral and that solvent the ground fault error caused by the floating ground on the generator. I can power everything on my trailer using the generator accept the A/C. Now It seems the EMS is shutting off power when the voltage drops as the A/C compressor begins to start (I'm not get the ground fault error message). It appears the EMS is shutting off power due to low voltage even before the generator has the chance to switch to surge mode and add the extra power needed to start the compressor. The EMS shutdown is so rapid the generator doesn't have the chance to go into overload mode. At least that's what I think is occurring.

My next step is to bypass the EMS altogether and see if the generator will start the A/C. Operation on the generator is only going to be needed in an emergency if we lose shore power. I'd like to do that without having to bypass the hardwired EMS but if the need should arise I'm not real concerned about power from the generator causing any electrical problems with the trailer. Worse case I'll use the stand alone EMS I have.

Wrong, it's a Bonding Plug for use on a generator:
