I can't help you with the "Designer" ladder issue, but I would really like to know if that is the same ladder used in other Jayco models. I am 6' 6" and 255lbs and have used our ladder many times in the past two years and have not notice any problems with our ladder. I am one that watch and look for faults and failures, no matter what the product may be.
I am an electrician and a electronics technician by trade. I am a Service Manager for the company I currently work for and have a pretty good eye for product failure or premature defects.
You have me somewhat concerned with this issue. I understand that it was recently replaced, but was it OEM replacement?
I have a Jayflight and like I said earlier, I have had no problems with my ladder. Please me/us posted with any further solutions.

I have been as heavy as 250, now at 215 and have had only one issue with my Designer ladder. Have been up and down it many times.

The one ladder issue was my bad. I was in a hurry, trying to get the dish pointed to watch NASCAR race in California. A tree was in the way and I had just moved the unit about 5 feet with still no signal. Climbed back up trying to see better what to try next. Came hurrying down the ladder, the wedding band got caught and the next thing I was hanging by it. After 40 mile trip though the mountain road to ER, got the ring cut off. Missed the race, had sore finger with 27 stitches and leared to take it a little slower and safer coming down.

Daryl and Sandy, the dealer took a brand new ladder (I think off another Jayco product). It was OEM.

I wish we would have thought to have Don try the ladder before we left the dealership, but as it turns out we are camping down the street from it. It just hit me that we can go back today and have Don climb a couple of ladders on some of the units there and see what happens

We will post and update when we have one

Oh, Man! Sorry to hear about your finger

Thanks for letting us know about the sturdiness of your ladder

No issues with my ladder. It feels a little light, so I proceed with caution.

Update.... We heard back from Jayco. They will replace our Atwood ladder with the sturdier Jayco 6006 ladder we saw on a Jayco Eagle Superlite.... it has the metal rungs that has metal that goes all the way to the end of the rung instead of plastic end that comes with the Atwood ladder. This is the one ladder that Don (250lbs) could scale without the rung-end snapping (he also steps very cautiously on the ladders). We haven't had it replaced yet due to time restraints. We will have it done this Summer though.

Update to the Previous Update!

The latest ladder Jayco tried (the upgraded model) works fine with Don scaling it! It does not have the black plastic caps screwed on the ends. Rather the rungs are the one piece metal that goes all the way across.

Is it a powder coated one? Can you post a pic?

My 2006 Jayco 29FBS has a factory ladder and I do NOT use it. For my 220 - 235 lbs body, it looks too light weight for me. Instead.... I use a 20ft step ladder to get on my TT's roof. IMO, step ladder (with 4 connect points on the ground) is much safer then using factory ladder, and my body weight moving its trailer side connect joints (that could make its contact points leak water). Water leaks are very bad thing.

Here are pics of the upgraded ladder Jayco wound up authorizing and installing. Don has gone up successfully to wash roof last fall and then again last month to check seals. Yea!

Sorry for the troubles... I'm a member of the Big-Boys Club of 250+. Although, I am comfortably below the 300 lbs rating for my ladder, the few times I have been on my roof it has crossed my mind about the build quality of the ladder....

Well, Jayco upgraded a ladder once, they should be willing to do it again! (ummmm ya would think anyhow). Hopefully it never fails on you

Here is what is on my 2010 Designer. It is rated for 300 pounds and I hope I never get to that point.

Man... Ed! Ya know, if the ladder says 300lbs it better do it! Based on what we saw when dealing with this issue, I'm guessing that the ladder you have will deal with the load it says it will. If not! I know you will deal with it and we will definitely stand you (I'm guessing that ladder wiill be fine though)

I just installed my Atwood Jayco ladder about a month ago. Third time I used it the plastic
end cap on the rung broke. I weigh 200 lbs. I installed it just for limited use in emergencies.
If you are thinking of getting one, save your money, they are junk.

Atwood is junk regarding their Jayco ladder; they do have a higher failure rate. Post #7 has information on the upgraded Jayco 6006 model ladder which does not crack under Don's current 260lb weight. Post #12 shows pic of that ladder. Check with Jayco and see if they will upgrade the ladder for you

I emailed Atwood. They said they would replace the end caps free of charge.
I haven't replied back to them yet, but I want to know if this is going to be a recurring problem, and if it's a safety hazard.

For us it was a recurring problem. First ladder failed first time Don went up it soon after we took delivery. Dealer replaced it with the same ladder. Left the dealer and headed to a cg. Next day, Don went up and "pop", there it went (pics posted earlier in this thread). Went to dealer (it was a Sunday and service was closed) so we tried a couple of other of the same "300lb" ladders of which they cracked (salesman gave us permission to try them)! Salesman then took us to Jayco Eagle Superlite with the Jayco 6006. It didn't crack under Don's weight. Dealer shared all of this with Jayco and received authorization to replace our oem Atwood with the upgraded ladder for free
