Leaking blow by valve on WH

Last 2 times out my water heater blow by valve started leaking only when the water heater was turned on to heat it. When water got hot it started dripping. Tried moving it a little but still leaks. Is this common or do I report it under warranty for a replacement? Never had this happen on previous trailers. Looks kinda funky leaking out the side of the TT.
Thanks. Jeff

They do go bad. I would first open the valve (do it with it off and cold so you do not get scalded) and flush water through the valve in case there is a little debris stuck in it. The circuit board will get wet, but it is designed to handle it. If it still leaks it needs to be replaced.

The HWH tank requires a given amount of air in it, and the pressure relief valve will release some hot water on occasion in order to maintain a specific air gap at the top of the tank. This may be what your experiencing.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.
Jagiven- I have drained and flushed twice but it seems worse.
Bob- Doesn't happen occasionally. Seems constant and actually puddles outside below WH.
Seann45- What I said to Bob.

Any other thoughts? Probably 1 or 2 more trips before winterizing so I'll keep a close eye on it.
A little drip will not stop our Happy RVing.

Sounds like it is time to replace it.

Agree it's probably needing to be replaced. It might be less hassle and not terribly costly to remove and replace it yourself. Should be a simple wrench off and on using a thread tape to ensure a good seal. I don't know if it would be worth the hassle of taking it to the dealer to make a warranty claim on it. Unless maybe there are some other things that need attention under warranty along with this valve.

Yeah, only had this TT since January this year so I will take it to CW dealer this winter for several small warranty items, and include the valve replacement.
Happy RVing.

No, no, no. If you read the Jayco manual it even says that it is normal for the pressure relief valve to leak a little when you turn the hot water heater on and it heats up. This is normal. I would be concerned if it didn't!

Sorry to contradict, but the hot water safety valve is not designed to leak. It is designed to release if the pressure and/or temperature exceed the preset limits of the valve. When water is heated, it expands. If there is no air in the water system, the pressure may reach the setting on the relief valve and it may release a small amount of water, however, constant leaking is not the norm. If the valve releases water it in not letting any air in. The water heater relief valve on our 3 year old Skylark has never leaked even a drop.

If the unit is under warranty it would be worth a trip to the dealer to have it checked and replaced.

Jeez! Lots of opinions and they all sound correct to me. I think you are all right! Thanks much and I will still include the replacement on my list for the CW dealer this winter.

Happy RVing.

Are you using a water pressure regulator? When our house burnt, my cousin brought his 5th wheel down for us to live in a few weeks. The pressure relief valve was leaking. I went and bought a new valve, it also leaked. Put one of the inline water pressure regulators on and no more leaks from the pressure valve.

Yes, I use a water pressure regulator which I believe is rated for 55psi, instead of ususal 45psi. I wonder if 55psi is too much pressure??
Happy RVing,
Jeff
