Leaking Hot Water Tank

I noticed Sunday evening the water pump going off every 10 minutes just slightly but couldn't find any faucets open so went to sleep. Monday morning woke up to water on the floor and when I traced it back I found that it was coming from what looks like a patch on the water heater. I have attached a picture and wondering if this is something that is normal in the RV Service business? To me it looks like the previous owner patched it up to sell the Rig without spending money on it. Fortunately, the Dealer says he will take care of it.

Never heard of patching a water heater, not normal as far as my experience; what is that crap that was used?

Make sure you completely dry out the area where the water leaked. I would run an electric heater if possible to ensure the wood cabinetry is dry. It doesnt take long for water to soak into the wood, expand, and subsequent permanent damage.

Is that fiberglass? On my phone it looks like wet toilet paper.

No matter what that is not normal.

The normal repair is to replace a leaking tank. Is to replace the water heater.

Is it an aluminum tank? If you can clean up the fiberglass, a good welder could tig weld a repair. A weld shop may otherwise want to do it for liability reasons.
