Leaky city water connection

I am having a hell of a time getting my city water connection at the trailer to stop leaking when hooked up. I have a 90 pvc elbow so the hose can hang straight down reducing pressure on the connection Teflon tapes didn’t do much and I have replaced the filter-washer. Wondering if I might need to replace the external FPT threaded fitting on trailer?

Azr,

Can you ascertain where the leak is coming from?

I solved our leaky city water connection by using two washers.

It sounds like your connecting the water filter at the RV connection. I would connect the filter to the hydrant end and only have the hose (much less weight) connected to the RV. Have you replaced the washer at the RV fitting? I would use the rubber washers rather than the vinyl that may come with the hose.

I connect at the hydrant, my pressure regulator, my splitter (for two hoses) then my water filter and my water hose. I use the other connection on the splitter for my black tank flush as needed. As much weight is removed from the RV connection as possible. The plastic rV fitting is easy to cross thread so take care with attaching your hose.

Good Luck.

Connecting filter at the hydrant end is a good idea. The weight at the trailer side IS a lot for the chintzy plastic city connection. I'm going to move my filter as you suggest.

Good tip. Sometimes ours leaks, other times not. I am always trying new washers when it leaks excessively. I'll try the two washer thing next time.

Another benefit to the regulator at the supply end is it protects those high price hoses from bulging/ bursting.

The threads for pvc pipe and a hose connection are close but not the same thread size and will never seal tight. You need to get a 90 degree hose adapter.

Depends on how tight I make it. Sometimes from the pvc and other times from behind the black nylon nut on the exterior of the trailer.

I had this problem with our new Seneca. I always used one in the old motorhome and since friends were buying it I left the old one in the old motorhome. Ordered a new one and could not stop it from leaking, tried Teflon tape, double washer, over tightening it and still dripped. Old motorhome was still sitting there so I took the old one and tried it and didn’t leak a drop. Compared the threaded ends and the wall on the new one was thinner and didn’t seal good on the washer.....needless to say ours friends got the new one
