LP tank relief valve

I just refilled a 30# tank- Now the relief valve leaks- The tank was manufactured in June 2011 and put in service in Dec 2011- What are my options to eliminate the leak [ it just seeps enough to emit a smell and form a small bubble when sprayed ]- Returning the tank is not an option- Do relief valves open rarely or does this occur more frequently? Will the relief valve reset itself or do I need to take the tank to a repair facility?-I need help to put the other half at ease, so let's hear some replies from this forum of knowledgible experts- AND SOON- THANX in advance for your help in this matter- I have disconnected the tank until I can remedy the problem- DD

I had this happen once a while back, and it occurred as the tank filler nozzle was removed. The tech doing the filling just re-connected the nozzle, then removed it again, and the valve unstuck - no further problem. In my experience, this is not a frequent problem - just occurs occasionally. But yes, for peace of mind, I would take it to an LP dealer or shop, and have it checked.

Is it possible they left the bleeder valve open a little? There is a small screw on the side of the valve. Make sure it is closed.

Depending on how the LP service company filled the tank, I would expect the bleeder valve was left cracked open. I have only seen this valve opened at locations that fill your tank without a scale, and they usually charge for a full tank no matter how much fuel you need. If I recall all you need is a standard screw driver. The bleed valve is on the side of the filler neck.

It is not the screw on the side of the valve- The relief valve is what leaks and I will have it looked at tomorrow- Thanx for the replies- DD

We had the valve replaced and the tank refilled yesterday- The tech said this problem is rare but it happens- The only remedy is replacement of the valve- Today we go forward to our next adventure- THANX to those who responded- DD
