Mid grade gas sitting in the ground

Most cars today run on regular gas and the tanks at the gas station probably get filled quite frequently. I use midgrade In my ram, and was wondering how often those tanks get filled and how long the gas is sitting there before I buy it. just wondering, wonder if I should switch over to regular. anybody have thoughts.

Many stations actually receive only two grades of gasoline and "blend" it at the pump to create any in-between grades. Perhaps check with your station's manager to see if that is the case in your area. Sometimes it still is blended at the terminal and might sit longer that way.

I was told the same thing by a coworker who used to run several gas stations.. Two types and blended at the pump for mid grade.

It makes sense to blend at the pump. It uses the inventory faster, which keeps gas fresher, and also only requires trucking in and storing 2 types versus 3+ which costs less. It also means that they just about all have ethanol content.

Not sure about your area, but in Canada premium grade gas has no ethanol. mid-grade gas, since it is a blend of premium and regular, will have about half the ethanol content of the regular.

To the OP, does your RAM require the extra octane in the mid-grade? If your engine compression isn't high enough to require the added octane, then there is no benefit to using mid-grade. All gasolines have similar detergents and additives across the line.

I use regular in my pickup because that is all it needs. My wife's car is higher compression turbo that calls for high-octane premium, although we often use mid-grade understanding that the engine computer will lower compression a bit and/or retard timing to prevent detonation in the cylinders.
