Modified sine wave vs. Pure sine wave inverters

I have a Xantrex XS 400 Inverter that is a Pure sine wave unit with transfer switch, it is hardwired into the moho.
It is a good unit but underpowered, I would like to get a higher rated unit but have found the other simiar types are Modified sine wave inverters.
Is there a difference that will be noticable using the TV and surround sound systems between Pure vs. Modified sine wave units?
I do not intend to use it for the microwave or such.

Using a modified sign wave inverter on electronics such as TVs and sound systems will often cause a noticeable hum. They also do not do as well charging batteries will wall warts (like cell phones). I have not had many problems with them charging laptops, etc - but anything with sound has not done so well....

Go with the pure and all of your equipment will run better and cleaner. You can find a 1500-2500W for around $400.

As Terry stated, always best to use "pure sine wave". Especially on sensitive electronics like iMac computers, sterios, LCD TVs and other sensitive devices.

Your devices will run a tad hotter when operating on modified sine wave also.

Go with pure sine wave.
