Norcold Fridge

My fridge has been having intermittent problems. To get the fridge to switch from AC to propane the auto feature does not work, i have to manually switch it to GAS option. The big problem though is when i switch it back to AUTO the on light blinks 2 times every 3 seconds or so. (2 blinks steady for ~2sec then another 2 blinks) I could not find any explanation to the blinks. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the Fault Code section of the manual for your unit.

Here is a link to the manuals:

The owners manual shows just about all fault codes but the one I am getting. That would be too easy.

So would you describe it as "ON LED flashes twice every three seconds."?

If so that is a fault for "Mode switch failure. Refrigerator operating in last selected mode."

Recommended action "Replace optical control assembly"

By your description, it sounds like a possible issue with the assembly. I would start by removing the assembly and making sure all the wires and connectors are in good shape. Make sure you remove both ac and dc power before hand.

I think The part costs around $120 if that is what it is.

Good deal...I had meant to say something about the service manual last night, but was half asleep when I posted that....

Please make sure you circle back and post a resolution when you figure it out....

I too just experienced the "two flash" code which was not mentioned in my manual. Service tech at my dealer said it was the optical (switch) assembly.

Odd thing was the fridge operated fine with LP but not on AC. We tried a reset with the jumper and it did not resolve the issue. Fridge is under warranty and they will replace this. They are ordering the part Monday. It is easy to replace, three screws to take out the cover and assembly and one wire harness. Five minute job.

Hopefully this solves it. Did you replace your assembly?
