Onan 5500 gas gen

Running yesterday with a load for about 2.5 hours when it just died. Found fuel bowl empty, will fill if I prime it then will run until bowl is empty. Any thoughts on this? Looks like bad fuel pump to me.

My son had to replace the fuel pump on his 5500 because it had become very weak. As far as yours is concerned, I would put a volt meter across the leads and verify that voltage is there when the unit is running. I assume the priming function sends power to the pump by bypassing the normal run mode. Just a thought.

Also, don't forget the fuel filter.

How is the fuel level on the motorhome? The Gen will not pull fuel when the vehicles tank is below 1/4.

If you hear the pump "knocking" during priming, it is probably good.
Check for any pinholes or cracks in the fuel line supply side.
