Open neutral

I wonder if it anyone has a copy of the wiring diagram for the kitchen slide on a Eagle 325bhqs? Last week my wife plugged a small toaster oven into the receptacle on the wall adjacent to the stove. Part way through the process the toaster stopped working along with the refrigerator and the TV. The radio above the TV, the fireplace and the microwave was working however. I tested the receptacles and found that there was an open neutral in the circuit somewhere. The receptacle where the toaster was looks normal and no circuit breaker or fuses were affected.

Is any of the outlets in the affected circuit a GCFI receptacle? It has a reset button. If not, check the neutral wire (white) connection at each of the affected outlets to see it they are loose. Make sure the breaker is off when you do this.

Do you have an INVERTER. Loose connections have been showing up there since they are push in connections.

Definitely check all gfic’s as well as toggle all breakers off then on.

I suspect the open neutral is some where down stream from that "toaster" receptacle. Unplug from shore power or turn off all your circuit breakers and start by removing the 'toaster' receptacle and keep going down stream from there until you find the problem. RV receptacles have a pretty cheesy way of splicing into the conductors so it's most likely one of these connections. Also, the electronics of GFCI circuit breakers or GFCI receptacles will not cause an open neutral. You are looking for a mechanical splice failure.

This might help. Go to the Jayco WEB site and send them a request for your 120 volt electrical layout. Give them your VIN number and model. While at it you might request the 12 volt system also.

Don't forget to check the wires going into the main panel. I found some loose screws on the ground bar on mine.

Again, unplug the camper, tight area and lots of bare wires back there.

Any union electrician wouldn't be caught dead doing something like the job on Jaycos.

And as a Union electrician my Precepts wiring gives me a headache looking at it so I’m rewiring my coach one project at a time.

More open neutral adventures

I have worked my way back from the offending receptacle, in fact just to be sure I rewired the receptacles with residential outlets. In the process I discovered that the offending outlet was at the end of the "chain". Oh, and I also discovered a junction box where the wiring comes into the slide behind the fireplace (that was fun). Now I can say that there is no continuity between the affected neutral and the power center busbar. The next issue is that there is another junction box just behind the power center where the external wiring comes in joining plain sheathed romex that then connects to the power center. Its a miserable spot almost completely buried under coils various sized coils of wire. I don't know how I'm even going to be able to get a screw driver in to open the junction box. I don't suppose I could get away with splicing the affected neutral in with one of the other neutrals in the junction box behind the fireplace?
Wishful thinking

Not a good idea to tie to another circuits neutral, that’s how to overload a neutral.
