Options for 50A Cord Storage

For those of you that don't have cord reels for your 50A cord, what are you using or what is your method of storage and retrieval of your cord?

I was coiling ours by hand on the ground, then throwing it in the rear storage. What a chore! I recently bought a Mor-Ryde manual reel and mounted it in the rear storage. Now, all I have to do is crank the handle and the cord is stowed quickly.

I went down tula's road. After wrestling the cord too many times I got the Ror-Ryde reel too. If you have a compartment large enough they're the thing.

If you can add to your pending order I would just go with the manual Mor Ryde. It's a huge convenience to have vs not. My previous unit came with a metal u hanger mounted to the wall and that was not fun.

Some go with small totes, but wrangling that cord when it's below 50 is hard. Plus it weighs a few pounds, so when your hunched over in the basement lumping it around it's not fun.

You do not loose that much storage space in the basement, depending on your configuration. I can fit 18 gallon totes next to it and the wall with ease in mine. Plus upon retrieval I run a rag over it to clean.

Just my 2 cents.

Same, coiled on the ground. I also bought a 30amp cord that I use most of the time with a 50amp adapter. I have no issue with the 30 amp and it is way easier to handle. The 50 amp come out when I plan on using both A/C units.

Now that's an idea. I have a 30A extension cord already that I used with my previous TT. I just need to get an adapter to go from the 50A connector on the 5er to the 30A extension cord. I like the idea of the Mor-Ryde manual reel too but IMO I think they get too much $$$ for it.

Thanks all for your input!

The issue with the 30 A cord other than the two air conditioners is that you need to be careful about using too many items at once (air conditioner, electric water heater, electric heater, hair dryer, blow comb, electric skillet, etc.). This can be managed with some planning. These issues can be ignored with the 50 A service. The manual MorRyde reel is easy to operate and you can wipe the cable as you wind the reel. I just grab both ends of the cable, drag it to the reel, and start cranking. To me it is worth the money. Check several online stores. Prices vary and you might find a lower price.

Options For 50 amp cord storage

I purchased a medium sized duffle/gear bag from Cabela's for less than $30 and it stores my cord plus all of my adapters. As I put it in the bag I take a rag and wipe off any dirt. Size is perfect that is fits into the front storage area of my Whitehawk 33BHBS

I coil mine up
In a plastic laundry basket from Walmart.
Wipe it down before stowing. I leave the basket on the ground with whatever cord is not used.

Norty, I was thinking of that too, especially to start off with to see how much of a pain it is. I was thinking of trying a 5 gallon pail but maybe it would be too painful to coil that tight by hand. IDK

Based on all of the reports, and after watching the video, I ordered one of the Mor-Ryde reels tonight. On sale for $154 @ PPL.

A friend of mine owns a Media Relations company
Does field work for Good Morning Mmerica etc.
Has miles of heavy gauge cord to coil and store
This is the trick he taught me and it works great
Never kinks or tangle and unreels everytime

I have a friend in the hvac business- I bit the bullet and bought an expensive 50 amp cord that is much smaller in diameter and very flexible , even in very cold weather- I also bought the appropriate ends at an rv dealership and had my friend install the ends on the cord- I have never regretted that decision and only wish I had done it sooner- JMHO- DD

My unit stays plugged in at home. So the only time I have to do anything with it is the trips to the campground. Since the last thing I do is unplug the unit when we leave, I simply wipe it down and feed it into the back of the pickup in front of the tailgate. First thing I do when I park at the campground and get the side to side leveling down, is plug in the unit. Coil any excess on the ground and away we go. I guess a cord reel would be nice but I don't have the space nor do I want to expend that amount on a reel. I like the idea above of the thinner diameter cord. What is "expensive" Diesel Donnie???

I guess we don't even think about this any more with the 30amp. Once in great while wife goes "opp" and I have to go reset at the pedestal. My 30amp cord was also a left over from the prior 5W and the $30 adapter worked well for our usage. Triple digit temp and the 50amp gets drug out
