Parasitic draw/drain on battery

I have a new 224BHW that's draining its battery, so I patched my meter into the ground cable of my battery and measured ~.88A draw. I will look for corroded ground connections. Where are the fuse panels? Under the stove sink area? Thanks in advance, folks

I got in the habit a few years back of pulling the in line fuse for the CO unit for just that reason.

The CO detector draws that much? It alarmed on us at 4:30AM so we plugged the truck back into the trailer because the GMC Sierra has 2 batteries. Is it advisable to disable the CO detector? We only camp in the summer, so we aren't running the furnace. Will running two 6V golf cart batteries exceed the tongue weight rating of the 22BHW?

It's alive when we are camping. I pull the fuse when stored.

Based on your .88A read, that can add up to a few amp hours fairly quickly if you aren't on shore power. there are quite a few calculators on line that will give you a draw versus battery needed with a minimum of input.

I agree with muckinfuss, always pull the fuse when not in use. But yes, it can draw enough to drain your battery over time.

2020 pinnacle 32rlts, single deep cycle stock battery from dealer would be dead in 4 days just sitting. Old 5er would go way longer! I put a battery disconnect on it.

Added 640 watts of solar.

Just sitting in driveway unused, Solar app (Victron) states 310 watt hours produced / used daily (about 24 AH) just running CO and the BMPRO control system.

I disconnect the battery when we are not actively using the trailer.

My little 2015 185RB Baja also pulls about .84 amps DC while it's just sitting there. CO/propane detector, fridge electronics, etc.

Solution?

1. Pull one DC fuse at a time at your power distribution center in order to find the circuit with the offending item; or,
2. Pull the battery main fuse when you're not using the trailer; or,
3. Install a battery cutoff switch or circuit breaker to disconnect the batts when not in use; or
4. Put a BatteryMINDer or some other float charger on it while not in use in order to offset the parasitic drain.

When I'm not using our I put a battery disconnect and hook this up which work through out the winter. It does a very good job keeping up the batteries so I can use my lights and run my slides when I go out to my RV.

I'll splice a big fuse into the +cable near the battery. And I got 3 small 50W solar panels. I figure they probably won't be enough, because I bought 2X6VGolf cart batteries. I can always patch back into the truck for a few hours. Thanks for everything guys!

What got me is when last year my wife and I had a big trip coming so we got out to our 5th wheel, back up to hook it up and nothing happen, well to make a long story short I was out there trying to charge the batteries for 2 1/2 hrs I was not a happy camper so this work for me.

anything that is on 12v system that has a remote draws power all the time.

Not only the propane detector but the radio also draws power even when off with memory presets and the display screen.. there are many items in a modern RV that draw a little power. The battery even self discharges over time

As you heard there are a number of items that is always pulling some power. Radio, co/gas detector, J-command . If this was a 5ver, the auto leveler controller is always powered up.

A lot of campers have a disconnect, but items like the auto levelers, J-Command bypassed. Not disconnected.

Personally, I would recommend adding a master power disconnect that shuts down everything but the emergency brakes.

A small solar panel worked for me. Now I have 200 watts and considering adding another 100. I rarely need my gen while boondocking.

I noticed a little light on near the tv outlet on mine. Seems that there was an antenna amplifier or similar gadget always on. We never used the tv. Once I turned it off our battery lasted a lot longer. Now I just have to find the fuse to the damn radio...

That's not too shabby. Watts = volts x amps so 150 watts gives you about 10 amps at a charging voltage of 14.4v. That's roughly 80-100 amp-hours per day in full sun.

We installed a simple toggle switch to turn off the entertainment features of our 23 RB to eliminate the latent power draw from all the lights. Everything else we have latent draw from is necessary items like propane detector, fridge, etc.
