Power Cord and Surge Guard Melted Together

I had an issue where my 30 AMP Power Cord melted to my Surge Protector and I was wondering if Dielectric Grease would help with preventing this or if there are other solutions.

It could have been a loose electrical connection inside the 30 amp plug that goes into the surge protector. My connector melted once, and that was the problem. One of the screws inside the connector wasn't tightened down against the wire.

Dielectric grease is not a conductive material, it is an insulator. Hence, it prevents the flow of current.

Dielectric grease helps to prevent arcing between the electrical components. But before using the dielectric grease, you must know that it is an insulator. So, use the dielectric properly with an electrical connection.

The thermal paste (thermal grease) is used to drain out the excess amount of heat from the electrical circuit components like transistors, LED, etc.

When you use the silicon grease, inflate the grease only on the outer surface or body of the component. And must assure that it must not touch where you are connecting the components or in the path of the electric current.

I am with SmokerBill. Bad connection was the cause. Loose wires, corrosion on the contacts, something. Wack it off far enough back to get clean wires and put on a new end. No grease of any kind needed. Just keep it in a dry place when not in use to prevent corrosion.

I noticed one of the hot legs on my 50a plug was slighting discolored a couple of years ago, so I started watching it and checking the temp with a heat gun. It was definitely warmer on one side than the other so I replaced the plug. No more issues since. I'm sure I dodged a bullet on this one and potentially ruining my EMS unit.
