Power protection options.
Hi folks,
In preparation for the 2016 season here in New England, I'm starting to investigate power protection options for my new Jay Flight.
I'll start by saying that I'm just learning about electricity. Prior to owning an RV, I never gave it much thought for my house but I realize now that proper current and protection is essential to protect my RV (and components within )investment
I am pretty much sold on a progressive industries PT-30C EMS.
Today I literally stumbled across the Hughes Autoformer. I searched it on the web and here on the forum and see that it has been discussed at length.
I like the idea that the Hughes can boost voltage to a safer range while the same level of low voltage the progressive will cut power off. I don't believe the Hughes protects against high voltage surges.
I noted that the progress will operation at ranges of 104-132. Outside the those limits it will kill power to the RV. I like the spike protection.
I've also seen that some people use both the progressive AND the Hughes. I cannot swing purchasing both this year. Is have both the ultimate in RV electrical protection?
What is the ideal level of voltage for an RV? Can electronic devices get damaged at a continuous low of 104 volts? I assume it's 112? If a high spike occurs, won't the main breaker trip protecting the RV?
Thanks for any insight.
