Power protection options.

Hi folks,
In preparation for the 2016 season here in New England, I'm starting to investigate power protection options for my new Jay Flight.

I'll start by saying that I'm just learning about electricity. Prior to owning an RV, I never gave it much thought for my house but I realize now that proper current and protection is essential to protect my RV (and components within )investment

I am pretty much sold on a progressive industries PT-30C EMS.
Today I literally stumbled across the Hughes Autoformer. I searched it on the web and here on the forum and see that it has been discussed at length.

I like the idea that the Hughes can boost voltage to a safer range while the same level of low voltage the progressive will cut power off. I don't believe the Hughes protects against high voltage surges.

I noted that the progress will operation at ranges of 104-132. Outside the those limits it will kill power to the RV. I like the spike protection.

I've also seen that some people use both the progressive AND the Hughes. I cannot swing purchasing both this year. Is have both the ultimate in RV electrical protection?

What is the ideal level of voltage for an RV? Can electronic devices get damaged at a continuous low of 104 volts? I assume it's 112? If a high spike occurs, won't the main breaker trip protecting the RV?

Thanks for any insight.

I can't help with your technical questions, sorry. I can report that ive owned a 30A pole mount EMS from Progressive and currently have a 50A hard-wire EMS also from Progressive for a total of 4 years. I can't say that they've saved any of my electronics from damage but I can report that they have reported 3 power issues. I figure it's one of those things that you can do without and never have a problem but I look at it in the same light as a TPMS. I'll have one in every unit I own.

I use a SurgeGuard Surge Guard 30A Portable with LCD Display | Technology Research, LLC and an Autoformer. This provides me the best of both worlds. I get the surge protection and EMS protection if its WAY off the reservation, otherwise I still get voltage normalization regardless. I prefer the non-hardwired solution b/c if the part ever fails, I'm not left w/ a huge problem while I'm out and about. I did buy the plastic clasp and a lock to help deter theft.
