Rand McNally 7720 7-Inch RV GPS

Last November, after buying our Greyhawk 31SS, I ordered a Rand McNally RVND 7720 7-Inch RV GPS. I looked at the Camping World version, but it cost more and I'm not specifically looking for Good Sam RV parks. My son used the motorhome during the winter. On a long trip to south Florida, he took the GPS along and reported that it didn't work very well - slow to notify of turns, locked up repeatedly, etc. I've used it one time in my Jeep on a 300 mile trip with no problems at all. I'll admit that I was familiar with the route, but it never failed to give me timely, correct directions. That speed limit thing is cool. Never missed a sign. Also, I discovered that my Jeep speedo reads 5 mph slow.

So, anybody out there have one of these things? Hows it working for you? Could it be that the overhang interferes with GPS reception? We'll be going out next week and giving the GPS a test.

I bought the Camping World version and LOVE it. I am a born speeder and the alert is cool. Warnings that my camper will not fit places are also pretty nice to know.

I have the Rand McNally 7710 and haven't had any problems with it's GPS functions. I haven't heard of any "C' Class issues with the operation of the unit...., but a call to Rand MacNally's tech support may be helpful, they are good to with with.

Have you used the Rand McNally "Dock" and downloaded the updates?

Hi folks,

I received a Google alert this weekend regarding the 7720 and it brought me to this page.

Widewader, it is possible that an overhang could be causing a signal issue, which, would cause the negative reports coming from your son. Here is what I recommend.

First, download the Rand McNally Dock and connect your device to ensure it is completely up-to-date. Secondly, when you've got the device mounted in your RV check how many satellites are being used. (Main Menu > Preferences > Scroll down to GPS Status and check the Used/Seen numbers. A minimum of 3 satellites is required for location accuracy.

Hope that helps!
