Range hood variable fan

Just wondering if any members have a mod to make the range hood speed variable or something to quiet the noisy fan motor?

Hi
Its not likely the motor but actually the 3bladed fan. To much pitch on the blades makes them noisy.
I changed out the fan blade to a 5 blade. Now it is quiet enough to have a regular conversation in trailer when it is running.
Got the blade from an rv dealer. Same motor is used in some bathroom fans.
Pull existing fan blade and match the shaft size and type
Its an upside down look but you can get at the fan blade from below. I pulled the whole lower bezel down it was like 6 screws holding it

The better half was very pleased when I removed the jet engine from above the stove and installed the quiet version

YMMV

Actually this is the 3rd trailer I have done this on of ours as well as a Bil trailer and the wife's uncle's trailer. It is well worth the effort. I stole the idea from another forum so I can not take credit for the idea

These will work on motors as well as a fan speed controller.

Just came back from the RV parts store. Removed 3 blade fan and replaced it with a 5 blade( took about 5 minutes ) .Roadrunner you are absolutely correct, the noise level is about half of the 3 blade. Thanks again!!!

I believe I used a db meter and the before was so many feet from jet engine during takeoff and the after was quiet room conversation. It is night and day different for sure.
Glad you enjoy the quiet like we do!

I ordered and replaced our range fan blade. 5 minute job and the fan is much quieter. It has 8 blades.

I bought mine a the local r.v. Parts house( allied trailer supply-sacramento ca). If you can i would have part in hand to match shaft and blade size. Mine was a 6 inch diameter 3/32 inch round shaft. Manufacture Ventmate, part #65491 . Hope this helps.

Mine came from Amazon. I posted a picture of the package. It was less than 8 bucks.

Thanks norty1.

First place I looked was amazon, but they showed 2 part numbers. Thanks for the clarification.

Error Error Error! I bought the wrong fan blade. I can use it somewhere but it turns the wrong way for the range vent.

Mine should be ccw intake, cw exhaust. Inverse blades.

To close out this discussion, I finally got back to this problem. I reversed the polarity on the motor and re-installed the blade that I purchased back in July.

I'm happy to report that it is quieter and all seems to be working as expected.

Glad you got it to work! Great thinking on reversing the motor polarity

I purchased the Camco blade that Norty1 originally posted back in July. I also had to reverse polarity which was a simple swap at the switch. This past weekend I finally installed the solid state speed control that I purchased one or two years ago. Now the fan has the quieter blade and the speed can be adjusted for airflow. At least now there is no excuse to not use it.
