You should be able to access this under the unit. I am not sure what you mean by a remote valve. It sounds like the valve is sticking and not closing all the way, or that the gasket has deteriorated and allowing black water to bypass it. Buy a new valve, drain the tank and rinse it well. Then be prepared to have black water drip on you. Slide under and remove the old valve and install the new valve in its place. It is easy to replace the valve. There are also valves that you put at the end of your drain pipe so you don't have to replace the old valve.
