Residential Refrigerator Inverter

When my Jayco is on shore power, the inverter goes into bypass so the Residential Refrigerator runs directly off the incoming AC power.

I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to defeat the bypass on their refrigerator inverter so that the refrigerator runs off the batteries on command even when the coach is connected to shore power. My reason is so that I can temporarily run the AC on a small generator without having to turn the refrigerator off.

What I have found is at a rest stop, with the initial generator start up the converter comes on full blast, the inverter goes into bypass putting the Frig on the generator power leaving not much to start the AC or Microwave. What I have done successfully is just turn off the converter and the refrigerator at the breaker panel then run either the AC or the Microwave seperately. I would like to be able to just turn the converter off and run the refer off the battery bank and solar panels (for a short time).

Only way would be the circuit breaker for the fridge circuit. Inverter has a built in auto transfer switch.

Grumpy, thanks for the info. I didn't think there would be a way around that.

On our whirlpool fridge you can temporarily shut off the cooling on the front panel.

That is what I have been doing. I do that and then turn the converter off at the panel. With those two big draws off, I can run either the microwave or the air conditioner with the little Honda. The honda screams with the new Furion microwave. It barely revs up with the 15000 btu Coleman. But that was with cool temps outside. I don't think the AC will work when its hot outside. Wouldn't want to risk it either.
