Roof Replacement on Jayco Sportster 8

I have a new to me 1991 Jayco Sportster, Roof support is missing, front and rear needs top repair and so does the top lift system too.. I do not know if roof seams leaks.
I have worked with epoxy and f-glass many years, I could make a new complete top and use aluminum frame and reseal it to the bottom. Make a new F-glass top. Anyone know how munch the top weights ? Make a angle front top to move the air over it, and it does not have to be as tall as it was.

Down fall- eats more gas mileage, Clearance issues could happen more. Maybe more weight.

Thank you for all of your inputs and thoughts and ideals,
Duker711

A buddy needed a new roof on his 5er, we found a Mobil bed lining company and had the roof bed lined and then we painted it white. It’s absolutely bulletproof! he had hail slightly larger than golf balls absolutely no damage to the roof at all.

We removed the entire fabric roof, repaired all the wood, removed the vents, AC unit etc. and the company came in and put about a 1/4” bedliner on it. we immediately painted it white, reinstalled everything and it’s been maintenance free and leak free ever since. 2+ years

Hey Duke,
They can pretty much do anything you need. The company that we found was a mobile unit, they came to the camper and set up, everything was taped off and they came in and sprayed it on. If my camper ever needs a new roof that’s what I will be doing.

Retired coworker, had his 5ver roof sprayed. He had them ro it over the edges a few inches. Each vertical wall seam he had sprayed too. All done in white. Your sportster is a slide in my concern would be the extra weight.

As for the weight of your roof. It is simular to a PU. I helped move one years ago. It was more awkward than heavy. A few friends can move it fairly easily.

I guess it all depends upon weather the center roof seal is good and if not, bad wood might be there. Also if I can get repair parts, and repair the crank up top system too. I then will have to remove the complete top and weight it. Make a complete new top with wood or a aluminum frame. If I use aluminum it will be a non-lift top, thicker insulated roof. I think the wood is 1 inch. I would use 1-1/2 or 2 inch aluminum frame. A higher R value for sure.

Any thoughts people ? thanks,
Duke
