Unhappy RV Dealer labor rate

Took the fiver in for a small warranty issue and noticed a sheet on the wall stating that their labor rates as of 1/1/14 were $126/hour
I know RV labor rates are high, and for good reason, but that seems a bit excessive doesn't it?

Whenever you get into leisure activities, you get high rates

boating, snowmobiling, ATV, RV and such

Here in my area, the rates go from 130-160/hr

Sounds high to this old cheapskate. One reason I do all I can myself, my trailer has never been back to a dealer since I bought it 4 1/2 years ago.

Our local dealers range from $110-$125 hr.

We also have a local RV supply and repair business (no RV Sales) and they are $75/hr.

Still I try to do as much DIY as possible

The sad part is the guy who is turning the wrenches to fix your unit, and you are depending on to do a quality job is probably getting less than 20% of that hourly rate.

The dealership has to keep their doors open, if they are losing $$$ it's only a matter of time before they close, this way people keep their jobs and contribute to the economy.

AND doing a proper job. A friend just got back here from having new batteries installed.. and NONE of her 12 volt electrical system was working right.. very intermittent ... so I took a look at it for her.. the RV technician just laid the pos cable on the post. Did not tighten it or anything.. simple fix BUT at those rates, or any rate really, I expected better workmanship. I phoned the service mgr and raised hell with him (she was too timid to).

That is precisely why I don't take anything to the dealer. I'm a hardcore DIY'er who can read and do. And if I can find a picture then I'll really be in business....I can skip the reading part!
