RV GPS Units

Has anyone purchased a GPS unit specifically designed for a RV ?
I am looking at the Rand McNally, Garmin and Tom Tom units. I currently own a Tom-Tom for the passenger car and its been ok... an ocassional snafu arises like driving in NJ and their No Left Turn policy but nothing overly major. A lot of reviews claim the Garmin is an awesome unit, the Tom-Tom is mediocre and the Rand McNally is just plain useless.... curious to hear what people in this forum have ... TIA
Eric

We have the Garmin RV760LMT and are very happy with it. DW has a Tom-Tom in her car and I can't stand to use it anymore. I've seen the Rand McNally unit and wasn't impressed.

IMO Garmin BaseCamp (trip planning software) isn't the easiest to use, but that said they are making constant updates and it has gotten better.

Just "seeing" a unit w/o actually using it is not a good report.

With that most like what they have and no different with us so cannot comment on other GPS's on the market.

With that said our 7710 Rand 7" was our choice a few years ago and does everything we expected with all the features we wanted.

Probably no GPS is perfect w/o some flaws but if the time came to replace our 7710 it would be another Rand as we see no reason to change.

I just ordered a Garmin RV760LMT to replace my old antique Street Pilot. There are some good deals right now on all the top rv models by all manufacturers.

I just picked up a Garmin RV660LMT in preparation for a couple of weeks on the road in the southwest next month. This is a new model that is very similar on features to the RV760LMT but slightly smaller - and about $75 less than the RV760LMT. I particularly like the voice recognition features and find I can tell it to do pretty much everything I need it to do that way as opposed to using the touch screen. You can add an optional wireless backup camera to it as well.

I have the TomTom 1605 RV. I bought it because it was $200 on special for $70. I had a garmin and Magellan before that(non-rv). The TomTom is pretty good. Nice big screen (6inch) and easy set up. During the set up it asks your axle weight and length with trailer and height. Updates come 4 times a year.. Some times when navigating the screen it does slow down. But when enroute there is no lag. It has all the info on the screen in a nice way. I thought for $70 why not

We have the RV760 LMT. We used it on a trip this spring through Wa, Oregon, California, Nevada and Idaho. It work ok, but it did have some strange routing a few times and didn't have two camp grounds we were looking for in its dated.
I think with any GPS you need to check your map also.

Well I was in no rush to buy a GPS since I had one and two I-phones with maps... I happened to walk into the Kingston store and there was a sale $100 off with an additional coupon that day my wife found and the member discount... so low and nehold I bought the Good Sam Rand McNally RV-7735LM.... There are some pros and cons.... and this is a few that I have found out
PROS:
-nice large screen, easy to read from across the cab and my navigator (DW)
-has ability to switch between car and trucl/trailer towing mode
-additional features for fuel consumption, trailer info
-turn advisories and expanded views
-POI list is pretty extensive (even found White Castle in Queens)
-real traffic abilities
-video camera jacks

Cons:
-audio could be a little louder
-screen could be brighter especially in sunlight
-mounting bracket is awkward
-battery power life is very short
-rerouting directions take a few moments

I didnt spend a killing on the unit because I dont soley rely on just the GPS, I always have a phone, printed directions and my trusty map book as back ups... but I think this will make a great upgrade from my refurbed Tom-Tom unit ....

I use the Garmin 760lmt (trucker model) not the RV760lmt. The RV one does not take into account propane and will send you through restricted areas. The trucker model takes it into account.

Surprised to see no mention of the Magellan Roadmate RV series.
I've used a Magellan_RV9145 for a few years now with a dashboard beanbag mount.

Really pleased, and would repurchase same unit today if it grew legs.

I have a Garmin 760LMT. Very good operating unit. Been using Garmin units for 20yrs. Own several. Best on the market. Tried Tom Tom once, took it back in one day.

Have had two Rand McNally RV specific models and have been generally pleased with both. But, I always check the route against paper/internet maps to ensure it is giving me a route I would want to use.
