Satellite dish, are they worth it?

Hubby just got a satellite dish & receiver today. He spent several hours figuring out how to hook it up. Looks like it may be kind of a hassle IMHO. We probably go to a hand full of places that do not have service per year. Are they worth the headache to hook up and put out each time? Anyone have one and do you like it? Any input is appreciated.

It can be a bit of a hassle, sometimes. I guess if you use it, it's worth it, it not.......

Thank you for the replies. Hubby determined that the satellite will only work on the main TV. We have 3 tvs. We do not have Dish at home so we would have to pay $42 per month. Hubby decided that it is not worth it. It will go back...

Yeah, and it's all depend how you are going to be using it the wife and I we goes out in our fiver about 4 to 5 times a year and some of the camp ground only have a few channel. We do take one long trip a year so with that we like to sit down and watch some tv, she like HGTV and Gun smoke and little house of the pirare.

You can set it up to watch tv on all tv's but you have to set it up.

Many of us have Tailgators or similar units that you simply set on the ground and let it do the "finding". I have three TVs and use a HDMI transmitter to send the signal from the main TV to the other two. We are seldom watching more than one station so it works fine. I am set up and running in about 5 minutes.

The other option is an Amazon Fire stick at different TVs and watch whatever you like on any of the three.

Do you happen to have a link or any pics of the HDMI transmitter, @ CAG? Is it something like this? https://www.amazon.com/weJupit-Trans...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

This is the HDMI transmitter and receiver that I got and added an additional receiver. It has been working great.

I don't have one but I did read up on them on the internet, which would make me an unqualified expert, right? I'm pretty sure it only broadcasts whatever is on the tv you have set up as the transmitter. It just takes whatever is playing on that tv and sends the signal to the receiving tv. No changing channels on the receiving tv.

I use an HDMI extender (switching campers now so it's buried in a box in the garage). The one I have also has an IR emitter so the "remote" TV can change the channels. It works by "relaying" the I refuse. from the satellite remote to the satellite receiver, so yes I can change the channel from the remote TV.

The HDMI transmitter I have has 2 HDMI inputs. One I use for satellite the other for Apple TV. I can choose to transmit either to the remote TV.

Yes and yes. You will only need one transmitter and one receiver. The "slave" will show the same channel and the Tx as long as you have the slave TV set to the HDMI that the Rx is plugged into. So, if it is plugged into HDMI 2 and the TV is set to HDMI 2 you will see that same channel and the Tx TV. You can still change setting on the main TV to over-air, cable, or another HDMI (you have your DVD plugged to for instance). Or, say you have a Fire Stick in another HDMI, you can tune to that. I also use my DVD Blue Ray on the main TV or in the bedroom to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.

There are plenty of options but the HDMI set saved me from having to fish HDMI cables from one end of the RV to the other.

Forgot to mention that these that I have came with a remote IR emitter and receiver also.
