scrunching sound from suspension
We've all heard the loud scrunching sound trailers make when turning/backing slowly in a campground. I assumed it was the spring leafs scraping against each other, even though our cars don't do that.
Then when I was swapping out our springs, I noticed that all 4 U-bolt plates were shiny and grooved.
These pictures look like those sounds, lol.
The u-bolts were not very tight coming off, and I'm torquing the new bolts to 90#. I believe the range is 6-95#.
So let's see we can sneak into the parks without anyone hearing us and observing my special backing skills next trip.

You'll need to get yourself an EV for a tow vehicle for that mostly total silence. Let us know how that works out for you.

For my setup, removing the weight distribution spring bars and sway bar from the weight distribution hitch before backing up got rid of a lot of noise.

Yes, very similar to that noise, but we have a 5th wheel.

One other thing to consider is wet bolts. I replaced my leaf springs after a failure in the fall of 2021. I noticed my original shackles were starting to get oval, so I replaced them and found a wet bolt kit with upgraded shackles.
All the popping and creaking I used to hear at low speeds is gone. Much quieter. I usually take off the WDH bars at the check in while my wife is inside completing paperwork (or if its a local trip I don't even use them). I can now move pretty quietly through the campground, whereas before it was popping, creaking, groaning, etc as I manuevered through the lot!

Shackles, springs
Just finished today bolting on new higher rated springs, shackles, and have Sumo springs ready to bolt on next. Pressed out old bearing sleeves in CRE 3000 and pressed in new. So all bronze sleeves are new.
Still need to mess with the wheel bearings (another long story), grease wet bolts, and torque everything.
So at 30,000 miles, all suspension will be better than new, and stronger.

When I drive out of my sloped driveway I hear the scrunching sound. I will check the tightness of my 5th wheel U-bolts. If yours were not very tight when you removed them, it is worth checking.

Noted a mistake I made above- I thought I had 9/16" U bolts, but checked and they are 1/2". So I will be torquing to 70# NOT 90#.
