If someone was going to heat the gray water hot enough to turn it to steam, they could also add a condenser to the system and turn that steam back into fresh distilled water which could be directed back into the fresh water holding tank. ~CA

Let's not stop there, instead of fission and having to ask the campground host where the nuclear waste dump is located, we could produce heat about 10 X's that which exists at the center of the sun and in the process of nuclear fusion incinerate the contents of both the gray and black tanks with the good news being you can make coffee really fast, work on your tan and we don't have to bother with nuclear waste.

Now that's an idea I can get behind!
My cousin runs an old diesel Mercedes that he had converted to run on used cooking oil. Filtering is pretty essential, but the fuel is free and the car smells great when running (although spontaneous line ups of hungry french fry lovers have been known to form).

There's so much more we could do with a small fusion generator on board. With one of those babies heating our absorption refrigerators, we will never have to have that "propane on or off while traveling" arguments.

Fixin' y'all right up!

Just imagine; no more garbage disposal problems.......direct feed of your black tank into the Mr. Fusion for ultimate power source for boondocking.

Now this is the most viable response!

Simply dumping into a solar closed evaporation chamber would produce freshwater as condensation. Boondockers??

So why would you want to do this? What would be left in your tank would be whatever wasn't water. You'd have food residue, soap, dirt, and whatever else doesn't boil away. Yuk!

Water boils at 212 degrees F (100 C ). 1st, you would need to have an energy source that would maintain that temperature for the amount of time it would take to boil off the water. 2nd, you need a tank that could handle that amount of heat for the specific time. 3rd, you've only boiled off the water and you have residue that, due to its concentration, is going to stink. Finally, WHY? You need to dump the black water and you should be dumping the grey water at the same time. That's why they invented dump stations.

However, NASA has developed water recycling systems for the ISS

https://www.nasa.gov/content/water-recycling

The problem is the multi-million dollar cost of installing one in your rig.

Happy Trails

Water vs solids

In the long run you would have problems with your solids (being dehydrated) and then Trying to evacuate them later. It would be best to just buy/obtain one of the portal tanks to empty the black or gray tank. Then dispose of at the closest dump station.

Years ago, there was an Answer!

Thermasan Waste Destruct System, installed in some RVs back in the '70s.
Thetford Corporation Service Centers worked on them.

Is your Airstream Thermasan equipped? "you need only turn a switch to automatically dispose of your toilet wastes in pollution free manner..... when you switch your Thermasan control to the "on" position as you travel down the highway....when both heat & speed conditions are met the injection pump is actuated to withdraw wastes from the holding tank & transfer it to a connecting system into the exhaust system of your automobile or truck. At this point the red signal light signals the driver the wastes are moving through the lines and are being destroyed. The Thermasan BLT 200 was designed to burn 2 gals. of wastes per hr, or 2 persons' waste per day in 1 hr. With a Thermasan Waste Destruction System installed on your Airstream you can make more liberal use of water for flushing. If more water is mixed with wastes there is less possibility of exhaust odors.

Boiling Grey Water

I saw a guy walking a baby goat on a leash one time at HBSP in SC. Now that was funny.

Why not hook up the black tank to your exhaust. Would come in handy when someone is tailgating you. Fire one!

With the price of fertilizer as it is. Those of us in Ag Production may be paying campers for their fertilizer.
