Shouldn't waste tank vent stacks protrude above the roof decking?
We have been having waste tank odors permeating our 2017 Eagle TT (pre Thor for all you Thor bashers reading this) since we bought it over 2 years ago. Our dealer has already found a bad gate valve, replaced both a black and gray tank due to splits, replaced the entire underbelly because it was soiled by the leaky black and gray tanks, replaced the air admittance valves twice and still we occasionally smell waste tank odors in the RV.
So I thought I would try one more thing and install one of the new Lippert Siphon 360 vents on the black tank roof vent in the hopes that it might help. But alas, yet again I find myself scratching my head. Once I removed the old vent, I was met with something I didn't expect.
The PVC vent stack for my black tank doesn't even reach the roof deck. In reality, it is about 3-4 inches below so not only can I not install the Siphon 360 vent cover, but the black tank vent is venting into the roof cavity. I even had to push some roof insulation and wiring to the side to find the top of the vent stack.
Then to pile on even more, they barely came close to even uncovering the hole in the roof for the vent stack and didn't even bother to cut away the excess rubber roof but rather just folded it over part ways and put an extra screw thru the vent cap to hold the roof flap back a bit. And on one side of the vent, There was barely 1/2" of Dicor sealant between the outside roof and the bare plywood decking due to the poor cutting job they did when they installed the vent.
Being that Jayco now installs the Siphon 360 vents on new RV's I have to assume that this isn't right and that this and maybe all the vent stacks need to be replaced so they protrude above the roof decking.
I already have calls into Jayco and my dealership as well to see about getting this remedied.
