Slideout stabilizers
Just curious if anyone is using the stabilizer legs for their slideouts. I wonder if they help keep the TT more solid or they can cause any problems with the slideout. I have been looking at them for a while and am trying to decide if it is worth the cost. Any brands better than any others? Thanks for your thoughts.

We bought them for ours so when it's on our permant site it helps with stopping motion. DO NOT crank these up and put pressure upward to try and level the TT as it will cause damage to the slide. Also, if you're set up for a long period of time re check them as the camper may settle and agin you do not want undo pressure on these.

I would not use them.
No trailer manufacturer I'm aware of endorses their use. Slides are designed to support themselves.
Save your money for other things.

The first thing my wife noticed when we bought our 2013 Eagle was that when you walked around in the TT with the slide out, everything would shake. On the way back from Indiana we stopped at a Camping World and picked up a set the stabilizers. We don't adjust them so that it forces the extension up, just enough to support it. I check them every day as I make my rounds. Some times they are tight others they have a little slack in them. All I can say is that you need to check them frequently. Wife is happy now!!!

The "slide support", if not adjusted properly can cause the upper slide seal to become "un-seated". This will allow rain water to enter the trailer. Also, leaves and debris may fine it's way between the sealing area.
If you do use the slide supports, I'd recommend installing a Slide Topper, if you don't already have one.
Click here for more info on slide out supports.

A set of extra stabilizers mid-coach will do the same thing. I use an auto scissors jack on Lynx levelers just aft of the door and in the same position on the back of the fiver. That extra stability at or close to the tires makes a big difference.

I bought a pair for the large slide on our 38' Montana 5er and I gotta tell ya...it didn't make any difference. I just traded the Montana for a Jayco 5er and the Owners Manual says not to use them.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will do more investigation online and contact my dealer.

OK, it seems logical that slide out jacks could very well cause problems. So the other choices for 5th wheels are basically either the tripod pin jack, or something like the JT Strong Arm telescoping stabilizers that attach to the front frame and the bottom of the landing gear. Does anyone out there have experience with both types, particularly as to whether the Strong Arms are enough more effective than the tripods, to justify the higher cost ?

DO NOT USE THEM... they will mess up your slideout and it will not be a warranty fix....$$$$$$$$$

I have used one on both of my 5ers and don't see any difference between using them and not using them. Others may disagree . However, if you would like a really nice lightweight, hardly used Aluminum tripod, I'll make you a deal .

Welcome to JOF
Unfortunately you posted your question in an existing thread that has been inactive for 1 1/2 years.
I would recommend starting your own new "Tripod" thread over in the the "Jayco Fifth Wheels" forum..., that way your post will get increased visibility and response. Once you start your own thread in the other forum, we can transfer any replies to your question from this old thread.
