Surge Guard Light Question

I got the Surge Protector 44260 30 Amp Portable Surge Protector for my TT. Yes I know its the cheap one, but I bought it with my camper. The last time I camped, as I was packing up, I noticed one of the lights looked yellow. Not green like the other lights, and not red for sure. The lights are supposed to be either green or red.

It was hot and I was running my AC. I think I turned AC off and it went back to solid green. I was packing up and don't remember which light row. Anyone heard of this happening or know why?

Go online or read the manual. That should give you the answer.

My guess is the voltage was low from the pedestal while you were running the AC. Maybe to much load from RV or pedestal/park was running out of juice.

But I agree with you, shouldn't have been yellow. I've only seen red/green when I had my unit, and no longer have the manual to check it out for you.

I read the manual. No mention of yellow light - only red/green. Maybe the LED light in the protector is failing. Everything worked, just odd.

Very. Can you call the manufacturer? Maybe they can give a clue...

I also would guess low voltage but no low enough to trigger the red light. If you had a EMS system it would turn off power automatically when voltage dropped or spiked, before it could cause issues with your AC.

Surges are not typically the biggest issue with electric. Improper wiring (reversed polarity for example) and low voltage is a much large issue and is fairly common when the weather is hot.

Good Luck..

Yeah - I can call them and ask. Will post back later with what they say. After all of the google search's I did about lights on this surge protector, I read one where someone said a yellow light means surge protector is "conditioning" the current. But I don't even know what that means. It was definitely an older campground with older looking pedestals.

I had the same issue while camping at a State campground a few years ago. I believe it was the polarity lights that turned yellow, so we had the workers check to see if the pedestal was wired up correctly. Everything on their end was good. Upon leaving our 10 day trip, I went to unplug and the surge protector was melted to my camper plug. When I got home I purchased an EMS unit and replaced the long camper plug with the marine style cord and plug-in on the camper. The next year at the same campground and same site, we had our power cutting out all the time due to low voltage. We informed the campground of the issue and they had an electrician come out and replace a main breaker. I thought awesome they fixed the issue. Tried the same site again for the third year and same thing, they had someone come out and replace a bunch of stuff but it did not get any better. The did end up reimbursing us some money for the time lost with out power but we will not be going back to that campground. The EMS units might be pricey but worth every penny. I also forgot to mention that within the three years we went there we had to replace the microwave and the A/C units due to failure. I would say that it very well could have been caused by the low voltage at that campground.
